The CRACS Co-Lab Migration and Sanctuary Working Group brings NYU faculty, graduate students, and community partners together through our shared investments in the movement of people across national borders. Our work converges theory with practice, forging interdisciplinary engagements with scholars and cultural workers campus-wide who draw upon global histories of migration while also attending to its contemporary manifestations. We concern ourselves with issues of U.S. imperialism, racialization and racial capitalism, indigeneity, and the intersections of gender and sexuality in relation to migratory flow. At the core of our work, we mobilize resources among colleagues and mutual aid organizations in an ongoing effort to push back against our city and nation’s persistent refusal to accommodate our newly arrived neighbors. This academic year we will host seminars, lectures, distribution drives, and asylum workshops.
